All those back days finally paid off, because on Sunday September 6th, 2020, Ryan Robert Kingma of Avonmore, ON grew (what had to be massive) wings from those sculpted trap muscles, and flew into the awaiting open arms of his Nanny & Grampa (Beverley & Robert Morin). Born a happy little butterball on January 8th, 1987, to Kenda tePlate (Henry) and Garry Kingma, Ryan was the only boy, and only kinda spoiled, among his three loving sisters Donna Kerr (Brian), Sarah Nuttall (Steve), and Haleigh-Jo tePlate. Ryan explored many careers throughout his life, but eventually answered the call to nursing. He was a dedicated RN in long term care, and spoke highly of his career and his coworkers. Ryan's ultimate passion was weightlifting. His second home was at the gym, and his extended family members were his brothers and sisters in iron. Swole was his goal, and he trained tirelessly to set goals and obliterate them. Just this past May, Ryan obtained his personal training certification, which he is probably already making use of among the angels on their road to 500. Ryan will be remembered for many things: his sense of humour and his laugh, his hugs, his intelligence and wit, his awkward dance skills, his love of Big Macs, and his strong dislike of a broken McFlurry machine. He loved animals, and could often be found snuggling with the cat or dog at parties and gatherings. He had an obsession with obscenely large watches and shoes. He loved "The Office", and would often throw quotes into everyday conversation. He was also a plant enthusiast, and created an urban jungle in his living room. Ryan was a self-proclaimed nerd, with a love of Venom and Playstation, and was quite fond of cuffed pants (specifically the sweat pant variety) often reminding people that it didn't change him as a person, mm'kay? Aside from his immediate family, Ryan leaves behind his nephew Nolan, as well as his three nieces Hannah-Lee, Emma, and Leah. They will miss his "scary" voice, and when he would toss them "really high!" in the air. He will also be greatly missed by his Oma & Opa (Riky & Herman tePlate), many aunts and uncles, and dozens of cousins and second cousins.A celebration of Ryan's life will be held at a later time when Covid restrictions are lifted, and everyone can come together to honour the way Ryan made life just a little bit brighter. One of Ryan's best quotes was "don't let your negative internal dialogue hold you back from things that make/keep you legendary". Live life to its fullest, never forget to tell those you love how you feel about them, spread kindness and laughter wherever you go, and stop to smell the roses once in a while. As he wrote in his final Facebook post before his death, "Take pride in how far you've come. Have faith in how far you can go. But don't forget to enjoy the journey. -Michael Josephson."
