Condolences

Condolence From: Diane Damario
Condolence: I was very sad to learn recently that my friend Cheryl Gaver had passed away back in April. Chery was a lovely person. She was a life-long learner with a very open mind. She considered things from many different angles. Cheryl also had a passion for teaching. For a few years, she taught my daughter Tianna the piano. During the Covid-19 pandemic, during the time when my church was closed, I particularly enjoyed watching several of her recorded services. She had a very special way of explaining things. I also have many fond members of dim sums with Cheryl and others. Rest in peace my dear Cheryl.

Condolence: Cheryl was the second person I met when I began my theological studies at Knox College (University of Toronto) on a brilliant sunny morning back in early September 1979. Over the next three years, Cheryl, I, and a couple of others befriended one another during those years of Master of Divinity study. I am grateful for her friendship during that time. I was always favorably impressed with Cheryl's academic achievements within what would become "the Class of '82", and early on there was very little doubt as to who would be the "top of the class" at our final convocation in May 1982. In truth, I thought then that Cheryl would make an excellent teacher if she chose to follow that vocational path. I'm glad that in her last number of years that she was able to exercise those gifts of teaching within her work and within the Church. I have little doubt that she excelled in that calling. Since graduation, Cheryl's pathway and mine paths have gone their separate ways. Although I did speak with her on a couple of occasions over the past four decades, it was only lately, since retiring from full-time pastoral ministry, that I became aware of her recent ministry with the people of Finch/Avonmore/Gravel Hill congregations. Over the past year, I've watched more than a few of her recorded services made during the COVID-19 pandemic. I had hoped that once the pandemic restrictions were removed that I might be able to travel to Finch some weekend and say "Hello." Alas, that reunion will have to wait a bit longer. May God bless all who will mourn her death; her family and close friends, as well as the congregations that she ministered among. Last week (May 12th), our graduating class at Knox College celebrated 40 years. Godspeed, Cheryl, and enjoy your Peace with God! --Rev. Harry J. Bradley

Condolence From: Rev Lois Gaudet
Condolence: To all of Cheryl's family, please accept my deepest sympathy in her passing. Cheryl was a true woman of God who was taken too soon. I was just starting to get to know her more in the past couple of years when I invited her to join the Cornwall and Area Christian Council and at the time of her passing, she was the President. She will be missed by many but she served her Lord to her fullest. "Well done, thy good and faithful servant, Enter into the joy of your master." Rev Lois Gaudet
