Obituary for Henry van de Glind

Henry van de Glind
Hendrik (Henry, Henk) Lubbertus van de Glind passed away peacefully at home on Friday, October 2, 2020. His strong-willed personality led a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer but in the end, he succumbed to the disease.
Henry grew up in The Netherlands with his parents and seven siblings. In Holland, Henk tried his hand at the family bakery but quickly realized that he was ready for a different adventure.
Henk immigrated to Canada from Holland in 1966. He came with a suitcase and his sweetheart, Gysje (Grace), who he married in 1967 and she remained his steadfast and loyal wife for 53 years.
After some odd jobs, Henry started H. van de Glind & Sons Logging Ltd. He enjoyed forestry with his sons and expressed an appreciation for land and stressed to his children that land is a valuable resource to be respected.
Henk had a natural charm and genuine interest in people and enjoyed striking up conversations with family, friends, and complete strangers alike.
As a father, Henry often stressed the importance of education and work ethic. He taught his children to work hard, to be independent, and to avoid complaining.
His grandkids called him Opa, and he loved treating them to Sunday brunch, taking them for trips to his homeland, cheering them on at sports games, and passing along many life lessons!
Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Hendrik van de Glind and Gysbertha van de Glind and an infant sister. He is survived by his wife, Grace; his children, Jackie van de Glind-Girard, Henry van de Glind (Angie), Terry (Jennifer) van de Glind, Heidi (Kevin) Roy; grandchildren, Brayden (Megan), Blake, Dakota (Kendra), Hendrik, Karlyna, Josh, Anneka, Addison-Rose, Isaac, Aliya, and Hudson; great grandchildren, Huxley, Wren, and Scotlyn. Siblings, Annie (Willem), Bert (Dinny), Gert (Fatima), Hennie (Rob), Hans, Joke, and many nieces and nephews.
Many thanks to the staff and doctors at Cornwall Community Hospital; family and friends for the prayers and expressions of support; and a special, heartfelt thanks to Dr. Menon and Manon McConnell for the outstanding and compassionate end-of-life care that was provided.
In Lieu of flowers, donations to the Cornwall Community Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society, or a charity of choice, would be appreciated.
Due to COVID regulations, a private family funeral service will be held.
